Prices in Osaka
Osaka is one of the better-value big cities in Japan, with street food, standing bars and old-style coffee houses that undercut Tokyo for much the same quality. Prices do climb in the neon-lit visitor zones around Dotonbori and the bay, where the same drink or snack can cost noticeably more than a few streets away. Budget sensibly and the city's famous appetite for eating out is easy to indulge.
The country average is ¥ 513 for coffee, ¥ 1,250 for lunch, ¥ 626 for beer, and ¥ 5,375 for dinner.
Hiroshima is the cheapest city.
Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau estimates that 17.6 million overseas visitors came to Osaka Prefecture in 2025, a 21 per cent rise that beat its own target. Spending by overseas visitors in Osaka Prefecture amounted to roughly a fifth of all inbound tourist spending in Japan, according to the prefecture's economic research centre. The same analysis estimates that inbound tourism generated about 2.1 per cent of Osaka Prefecture's GDP.
